SPIRIT GUIDE
By: FOOD DRINK LIFE
Any type of whiskey should be stored in a cool, dark place, out of direct sunlight. If in a decanter, enjoy it soon after transferring it.
Combine sugar and water over low heat. No boiling is needed, but it should be warm enough for the sugar to dissolve. Cool before using in drinks.

Learn how to sip whiskey properly so you can enjoy the intricacies of its flavor.
01
Hold the glass to your mouth, but keep your mouth closed. Inhale to take in the fragrance of the whiskey, preparing your palate for the next step.
02
Then, inhale through your nose with your mouth open. This further prepares you for the flavor of the whiskey, softening the blow of its strength.
03
Take a small sip, but don’t swallow yet. Swish the whiskey in your mouth, then swallow. You may feel a lingering effect called a Kentucky hug.
04
Finally, take a longer sip and swallow as you normally would. Because of the previous steps, the sensation of the whiskey going down your throat will be less jarring.
The sipping rules work with any type of whiskey, including: • bourbon whiskey • rye whiskey • Tennessee whiskey • Scotch whisky • Irish whiskey • Japanese whisky
